Address: 7 Gough St, Central, Hong Kong
After having lived in Hong Kong for a year, I can say that this is probably my favorite restaurant there. It is a bit weird that a ramen restaurant would be so good in Hong Kong, but it definitely is great. I would even say that this ramen is not only the best in Hong Kong, but better than anywhere I have had in Japan as well. Apparently, the original Zagin Soba is in Osaka, so it is likely that that location is even better than the one in Hong Kong.
The ramen here is very pricey, if prices have not changed since last year it is about $15-20 a bowl. However, for ramen of this quality, it is definitely worth the price. Several of my friends who love food have also agreed with me in saying that this was probably their favorite ramen place. They have both a tsukemen and a regular ramen, and both are delicious, so it really just depends on personal preference. Zagin Soba’s broth is really unique because it is chicken-based. The broth is amazing because it is both super flavorful and rich, while not being too heavy at the same time. I think that it is something that must be tasted though because the flavor is a bit hard to describe just with words.
I know that there are more casual, trendy ramen restaurants in Hong Kong such as Ichiran and Butao Ramen; however, those places are nothing compared to Zagin Soba. If you are ever planning on making a trip to Hong Kong, this would be my #1 recommended restaurant. I wish I could have it again now, but the next time I go back to Hong Kong it will definitely be one of the first stops that I make.
This is a blog for myself (and hopefully others) to keep track of all of the places, restaurants, books, movies, etc. that I do not want to forget. I am a college student who has lived in the US, Asia, and Europe for extended periods of time; I am very lucky to have had these experiences, and I want to share my recommendations with people interested in any of these locations.
NONE of these posts are advertisements. I do not have any discount codes or promotions for anything I write about; however, this should be considered a positive because it means that everything I write about reflects my true feelings. In order to keep this blog positive, my posts will only be recommendations for the things I enjoy the most in life. The topics will vary between whatever subjects I am interested in at a certain time, and I will have 1-2 new posts per day.
I wish I could have started this project earlier while some of my memories were fresher in my mind, but it is better late than never. I hope that other people will have the chance to visit or experience things that I write about, and I hope that people will have a similar taste in life to myself!
