Hachibei is my favorite yakitori restaurant. They are most well-known for their butabara, or pork belly, yakitori. This is my personal favorite dish that they have, although others such as the chicken wing and Hakata chicken rice are great as well.

The location is a bit hard to find, and it is pretty busy at most times. It has been sad to see the restaurant be only half-full recently because of the coronavirus, but I am sure it will bounce back once the panic dies down.

The butabara is definitely worth the hype, and no other type of pork belly I have had compares to it. It is both really juicy and flavorful. All dishes are made to order, so the yakitori comes fresh out of the fire, which makes them even better. Hachibei’s fire also seems to have a unique flavor, which makes the meat taste more smokey (in a good way) and fresh.

I have also been to the Michelin-star yakitori restaurant Bird-Land, which I thought was pretty good. Still, Hachibei is significantly better in my opinion, even though it does not have a Michelin-star (can’t get everything right I guess!)

Hi,
This is a blog for myself (and hopefully others) to keep track of all of the places, restaurants, books, movies, etc. that I do not want to forget. I am a college student who has lived in the US, Asia, and Europe for extended periods of time; I am very lucky to have had these experiences, and I want to share my recommendations with people interested in any of these locations.

I wish I could have started this project earlier while some of my memories were fresher in my mind, but it is better late than never. I hope that other people will have the chance to visit or experience things that I write about, and I hope that people will have a similar taste in life to myself!
