Best Restaurants to Eat at in Honolulu: Uncle Clay’s House of Pure Aloha

Shave ice is a classic Hawaiian dessert. Since it is always so hot in Hawaii, you can eat shave ice year around. While the most famous place for shave ice in Hawaii is probably Matsumoto’s, it is really far from downtown. Furthermore, there are a couple of shave ice places that I prefer to Matsumoto’s.

One of my favorite places for shave ice is Uncle Clay’s House of Pure Aloha. I have been going to his shop for a while (before it was even a shave ice place, and before it was called Uncle Clay’s). However, I really enjoy their shave ice because they use natural syrups. They have all different fruit flavors ranging from strawberry to mango to coconut, and they all use the actual fruit rather than artificial flavorings.

In addition to having natural syrups, they also have some of the softest ice on the island. The two most important things for a good shave ice are good syrups and good ice quality, and Uncle Clay’s definitely has them both. It also gets an extra bonus because it has great ice cream and other toppings.

The shave ice in the picture above is called the Strawberry Dream. This one includes strawberry syrup, ice cream, real strawberries, and condensed milk. It is definitely my personal favorite choice there, but almost everything is good there. If you are ever in Honolulu, I would recommend trying Uncle Clay’s if you are craving good shave ice.

Uncle Clay’s Recommendation Rating: 4

1: Something worth checking out if you have time

2: Something that is a hit for some people, but not a must for everyone

3: Something worth prioritizing if interested

4: Something worth making time to check out

5: An absolute home run, worth going out of your way for
