Miss Sherlock is a Japanese TV Show that was produced by HBO Asia. It is one of the only Japanese shows that is available on HBO right now. Overall, it is my second favorite take on the classic Sherlock Holmes series (behind the previously mentioned Sherlock). As you can see by the poster and the title, this is a unique take because both Sherlock and Watson are women; however, it still retains a feel of a typical Sherlock Holmes series.
The show is only 1 season and 8 episodes, with each being about 45 minutes or so. The show was released in 2018, but so far there has been no new reports about a Season 2 being released (although there definitely should be one because Season 1 was left on a cliffhanger).
The show is a little bit darker and more graphic than typical American shows, and even more so than the BBC version. However, it was an extremely enjoyable and entertaining series; the cases are interesting, and the character development between Sherlock and Watson (as well as the antagonists) is strong. Since I am still trying to learn Japanese, this was a perfect show for me; however, even if this weren’t a Japanese TV show, I would have still watched it.
Overall, if you are a big Sherlock Holmes/mystery fan and are looking for something to watch, I would highly recommend watching this show. I do not think that many people have heard of it yet since it came from HBO Asia (as opposed to the US version of HBO), but maybe if more people start to watch it, they will begin to produce a second season.
Miss Sherlock Recommendation Rating: 4
1: Something worth checking out if you have time
2: Something that is a hit for some people, but not a must for everyone
3: Something worth prioritizing if interested
4: Something worth making time to check out
5: An absolute home run, worth going out of your way for
