Recently, I have been playing a lot of Catan with my friends. It is a really fun strategy game, and it is a good game to play for all different types of players.
While I love playing board games like Monopoly and Risk, those games take such a long time to complete; while Catan can take a long time (1-2 hours), it will never extend for days like Monopoly and Risk can. This makes it a more convenient game if you only have a couple hours to play each day. Also, Catan is a great game in terms of replay-ability; on some days, my friends and I will play 3 games or so.
The point of Catan is to get to 10 victory points; you can get these points by building settlements, cities, roads, etc. It sounds difficult if you have never played it before, but once you start playing it is easy to get the hang of it. I would say that it takes less than 10 minutes to understand the rules and how to play.
Catan uses a combination of dice and cards, and both help to make the game more random and luck based. While there is still plenty of skill and strategy involved, I would say it is about 40-60 luck/skill ratio.
I know a lot of people who play Catan now, and it is getting to be a really popular game. I would highly recommend trying it out if you have never heard of it before; the game works best if you have 4 players, but it can also work if you have as little as 2 players or as many as 6 players (but for 5-6 people you have to buy an extension pack as well!).
This is a blog for myself (and hopefully others) to keep track of all of the places, restaurants, books, movies, etc. that I do not want to forget. I am a college student who has lived in the US, Asia, and Europe for extended periods of time; I am very lucky to have had these experiences, and I want to share my recommendations with people interested in any of these locations.
NONE of these posts are advertisements. I do not have any discount codes or promotions for anything I write about; however, this should be considered a positive because it means that everything I write about reflects my true feelings. In order to keep this blog positive, my posts will only be recommendations for the things I enjoy the most in life. The topics will vary between whatever subjects I am interested in at a certain time, and I will have 1-2 new posts per day.
I wish I could have started this project earlier while some of my memories were fresher in my mind, but it is better late than never. I hope that other people will have the chance to visit or experience things that I write about, and I hope that people will have a similar taste in life to myself!
