Hamilton is the newest movie on Disney +, and it is getting rave reviews from critics. It has gotten 99% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is a pretty incredible rating.
The show is a recording of the original Hamilton Broadway play, when it still starred original cast members such as Lin-Manuel Miranda and Leslie Odom Jr. The movie was originally expected to be released in theaters in 2021, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was put immediately on Disney + this year.
The movie version was really good, and it was entertaining for sure (although I am sure it is not even as close to as good as the play). I would recommend watching the movie with closed captioning on, as some of the enunciations of the actors could be better. Also, it can take 30 minutes or so before your ears get adjusted to hearing all of the dialogue in songs (there is almost no talking dialogue, the entire movie is singing).
The songs are all really good, and it is incredible to think that Lin-Manuel Miranda came up the entire show by himself; also, the cast is amazingly talented and sing all of the songs flawlessly. If you keep in mind that this is a Broadway play, I think you will be even more impressed and have more respect for the performers.
Hamilton was also really long, as the movie version is 2 hours and 40 minutes; therefore, it is a real commitment, and you have to block out a lot of time to watch it. Still, if you are a history buff, have read the biography of Hamilton by Ron Chernow, or are a musical fan, I would definitely recommend watching it ASAP on Disney + (although it is supposed to remain on Disney + for at least a couple of months).
Hamilton Recommendation Rating: 3
1: Something worth checking out if you have time
2: Something that is a hit for some people, but not a must for everyone
3: Something worth prioritizing if interested
4: Something worth making time to check out
5: An absolute home run, worth going out of your way for
