Now that I am stuck at home most days, I do not get to listen to as many podcasts as I used to. The amount of podcasts that I listen to now compared to pre-coronavirus is much smaller, yet I have still kept 99% Invisible on my list.
99% Invisible is a podcast produced by Roman Mars, and the main themes are design and architecture. This is definitely not a normal topic that I would listen to, but something about the storytelling and production makes it really fascinating to listen to. Also, Roman Mars voice is very smooth and soothing, so I can listen to it without getting tired, even if it is on 2x speed.
Each episode of 99% Invisible is a little under 30 minutes or so, but they are able to pack a lot of information into that time. The topics are really wide ranging (they all just broadly fall under the topic of design and architecture), which means you can learn about a large variety of subjects.
Some of the topics of recent episodes I have listened to include diamonds, perfume, suits, and the Yokai in Japan. I really enjoy it because when each new episode comes out, I can learn about a topic I had little to no previous expertise and familiarity with.
If you are interested in learning about a variety of topics (whether you are interested in it before or not), I would give 99% Invisible a chance. You can start with any episode, as they are not connected; also, all of them are well-produced and well-explained.
99% Invisible Recommendation Rating: 3
1: Something worth checking out if you have time
2: Something that is a hit for some people, but not a must for everyone
3: Something worth prioritizing if interested
4: Something worth making time to check out
5: An absolute home run, worth going out of your way for
