Best Podcasts to Listen to: An Oral History of the Office

Spotify has been on a buying spree recently in acquiring exclusive podcasts, and they are now a viable home to podcasts rather than just music. The most famous recent acquisitions were the Joe Rogan Experience and a Kim Kardashian podcast, but Brian Baumgartner (more well known for being Kevin in The Office) has also recently launched a new podcast on Spotify.

The podcast is called “An Oral History of the Office“, and it just came out on July 14th. There are already 3 episodes available on Spotify, and it is a must listen for any Office fan. Each episode is 40 minutes or so, and Baumgartner has already brought in John Krasinski (Jim Halpert), Steve Carell (Michael Scott), Rainn Wilson (Dwight Schrute), and plenty of other Office stars to talk about what it was like on-set and during production.

There are so many fascinating stories that I never knew before (I don’t want to spoil any though, so listen to the podcast yourself!), and it really was an incredibly long, winding journey that brought The Office to TV. The Office was originally a show in the UK, but a couple of fans of the show decided to make an American version. It didn’t gain much traction initially, and there were plenty of times where it almost got cut (thankfully it did not).

In addition to the journey of the show, the podcast also talks about the backstories behind all the actors/actresses and how they auditioned for the show. It is incredible to think that they all started out as nobodies, but after the show is done they have all become big stars. It took a while before their talents were discovered, and learning more about their backstories was amazing. They are all incredible, but some of the most interesting discussed include Krasinski’s, Jenna Fischer (Pam), and Phyllis Smith (Phyllis).

I don’t think anyone would listen to this podcast if they were not fans of The Office; however, if you are a fan of The Office, this is an absolute must-listen to podcast!

An Oral History of the Office Recommendation Rating: 3

1: Something worth checking out if you have time

2: Something that is a hit for some people, but not a must for everyone

3: Something worth prioritizing if interested

4: Something worth making time to check out

5: An absolute home run, worth going out of your way for

This is a blog for myself (and hopefully others) to keep track of all of the places, restaurants, books, movies, etc. that I do not want to forget. I am a college student who has lived in the US, Asia, and Europe for extended periods of time; I am very lucky to have had these experiences, and I want to share my recommendations with people interested in any of these locations.

NONE of these posts are advertisements. I do not have any discount codes or promotions for anything I write about; however, this should be considered a positive because it means that everything I write about reflects my true feelings. In order to keep this blog positive, my posts will only be recommendations for the things I enjoy the most in life. The topics will vary between whatever subjects I am interested in at a certain time, and I will have 1-2 new posts per day.

I wish I could have started this project earlier while some of my memories were fresher in my mind, but it is better late than never. I hope that other people will have the chance to visit or experience things that I write about, and I hope that people will have a similar taste in life to myself!
