Since I went to school in Southern California for a bit, I have tried many of the good restaurants in Los Angeles. One of my personal favorite restaurants in LA is in K-Town, and it’s called Hangari Kalguksu. It is located right next to the super popular Sun Nong Dan (which is also good).
Hangari Kalguksu has a wide variety of options, but my favorite dish to get there is the Chicken Galguksu. Basically, it is a Korean chicken noodle soup, but that description sells the dish way short. The dish comes with a half chicken in a chicken broth, and the chicken broth is both filling and flavorful. It also comes with noodles (similar to udon style) that go really well with the soup. It is hard to explain what makes the dish so tasty and good, but if you try it you will understand.
Hangari Kalguksu also has other soup dishes you can get as well though, including seafood, vegetarian, etc. They are also famous for their bossam, but I have never tried this dish (based on their other dishes, I would assume it would be good though!). Finally, they also have really good mandoo (or dumplings), so you can get a side order of those if you want as well.
The only problem with the restaurant is that it is hard to find parking around the area, although with the current situation I am sure the restaurant is only open for takeout. If you ever find yourself around the K-Town area, or if you are trying to get into Sun Nong Dan but the wait is too long, I would recommend giving Hangari Kalguksu a try!
Hangari Kalguksu Recommendation Rating: 4
This post has now been updated to reflect a new ratings system that I have implemented, which is scored as follows:
1: Something worth checking out if you have time
2: Something that is a hit for some people, but not a must for everyone
3: Something worth prioritizing if interested
4: Something worth making time to check out
5: An absolute home run, worth going out of your way for
