Do-Ne is a Japanese restaurant in Honolulu that my family has been going to a lot recently during the quarantine period. The food is really well suited for takeout, and it holds well even after it has been refrigerated.
Some of my favorite dishes are the marinated fried chicken, pork and eggplant, and the katsu-don. The fried chicken isn’t like traditional Japanese karaage, but it still has a really good flavor. The pork and eggplant dish has a miso sauce, and it is flavorful without being too heavy.
Since I have never actually been to the restaurant for dine-in (only takeout), I do not know what their full menu is like. However, from the quality of dishes that I have eaten during takeout, I would guess that most of their dishes are pretty good.
According to one Yelp review, the owners of the restaurant are from Fukuoka, so this is how you know it is authentic Japanese food. The restaurant is getting 4.5 stars on Yelp with around 300 reviews, so I am not the only one who is a fan of the restaurant. Like so many other restaurants in Hawaii, I am sure they are struggling due to the lockdown and people not being able to go out to eat, so if you are around the area be sure to support them!
