Best Golf Courses in Honolulu: Waikele Country Club

I recently golfed at Waikele Country Club (it’s called a Country Club, but it is open for the public to play) for the first time in a while, and the course is in excellent shape. The fairways and greens were on the level of Kapolei and Ko Olina, if not better.

For some reason though, the greens were pretty difficult to read though, so it played harder than I remember. Still, as you can see in the picture above, some of the holes are super nice in terms of layout and scenery, and it is a fun course to play.

One reason I do not play Waikele much is because there is no twilight rates available, so it is $65 all day (for Hawaii residents). While this is pretty standard for Hawaii golf courses, at courses like Kapolei and Hawaii Kai you can get twilight rates for closer to $45-50. This is just a recent policy that Waikele implemented though, and I think it is only going to be in place during COVID times, so hopefully it will start offering twilight rates again sometime in the near future.

If you go to Waikele on a weekday (not Friday though), it is relatively easy to get a tee time, and there is not much backup on the course, which is nice. I would not recommend going on Friday’s and weekends though, as it is almost impossible (even if you do though, it will probably be close to a 5 hour-round). While it is a little bit of a drive from town, I think Waikele is worth it if you are looking for a new course to play!

Waikele Country Club Recommendation Rating: 4

1: Something worth checking out if you have time

2: Something that is a hit for some people, but not a must for everyone

3: Something worth prioritizing if interested

4: Something worth making time to check out

5: An absolute home run, worth going out of your way for
