Food: Rigo (Honolulu)

Address: 885 Kapahulu Ave, Honolulu, HI 96816

Rigo is somewhat similar to Bernini, except that instead of being Italian-Japanese it is Spanish-Japanese. It is located in Honolulu, but the restaurant is in a standalone location, so it may be a bit difficult to find at first.

Even though it is Spanish-Japanese, Rigo also has some really good pastas and pizzas. One of my favorite dishes is the chilled pasta with scallops and bok choy. Although it is nothing like a traditional pasta dish, the flavors go really well together, and I actually enjoy the pasta cold. It is a really unique fusion dish, and one that I have only had at Rigo.

In addition to the chilled pasta, they also have really good traditional pastas such as the Bolognese and Arrabbiata. If you are able to dine in the restaurant, they have a Josper Oven, which is a special type of charcoal oven that they had to ship in from Spain. Apparently, it is supposed to be a top of the line oven, and something the restaurant is really proud of. They cook meats like lamb chops, pork chops, steak, etc. in the Josper Oven; I have not tried it yet (unfortunately the oven was broken the time that I did dine-in), but it is something I would like to try in the future.

While it is nothing like a traditional Japanese or Spanish restaurant, Rigo does a good job of blending both food cultures together. I would recommend dining in if you have the choice, but takeout was also quite good given the circumstances!

Hi,
This is a blog for myself (and hopefully others) to keep track of all of the places, restaurants, books, movies, etc. that I do not want to forget. I am a college student who has lived in the US, Asia, and Europe for extended periods of time; I am very lucky to have had these experiences, and I want to share my recommendations with people interested in any of these locations.

NONE of these posts are advertisements. I do not have any discount codes or promotions for anything I write about; however, this should be considered a positive because it means that everything I write about reflects my true feelings. In order to keep this blog positive, my posts will only be recommendations for the things I enjoy the most in life. The topics will vary between whatever subjects I am interested in at a certain time, and I will have 1-2 new posts per day.

I wish I could have started this project earlier while some of my memories were fresher in my mind, but it is better late than never. I hope that other people will have the chance to visit or experience things that I write about, and I hope that people will have a similar taste in life to myself!
