Last year I had to move out of my dorm because of COVID-19, but I was not sure if I would have to come back or not to take finals. I was left with a predicament when I learned I did not have to go back, as a lot of my luggage and documents were still left abroad.
I was fortunate to have some friends who told me about the website Send My Bag, as this turned out to be the best option to send my suitcase home. Whereas traditional mail services would have cost around $1000 to send my luggage home (because it was coming from another country), Send My Bag was only $200. I am not sure why Send My Bag is so much cheaper than traditional services like Fedex, DHL, and USPS, but the service I received was great. It took about 1-2 weeks before I got my luggage back to the US.
One difficult thing about Send My Bag is that you have to have someone place tags and tracking numbers that are needed for shipping the luggage. I was fortunate enough to have a friend who was able to pack my luggage up, print out the stickers (special Send My Bag stickers), and be at home to give the carrier my luggage when they come by. This part could be a bit of a hassle, as the carrier can come at any time (on a specified date), which means someone has to be at the address to give the luggage to them.
If you meet all of the above conditions though, Send My Bag is just like any other delivery service, and it works for 20-25% of the normal price. If you need to get your luggage home from abroad, the first place I would check out is Send My Bag!
