Kamitoku Ramen is a new restaurant that just opened in Ward, and the food there exceeded my expectations. Kamitoku Ramen is most known for its beef ramen broth, which is a bit unique, as most ramen places use a tonkotsu base (pork bone broth).

While my family tried out a bunch of different dishes at Kamitoku, there was one dish that stood out to me above the rest. I ordered the beefy aburasoba, and it turned turned out to be an incredible dish.

First of all, the aburasoba is different from all of Kamitoku’s other ramens, as it is a soupless ramen base. Instead of a traditional ramen broth, the noodles are oiled and seasoned with shoyu; the aburasoba may sound like it has less flavor than traditional ramen, but it actually was the most flavorful of all of them. The flavor was strong without making the dish too heavy, and I was super impressed with the aburasoba. With the weather being so hot in Hawaii, I would love to have tried the aburasoba with chilled noodles; however, the way that Kamitoku serves the aburasoba is hot, and this way is great as well!

The non-ramen dishes at Kamitoku are good, but nothing spectacular, and I prefer the non-ramen dishes at Junpuu. However, just comparing ramen alone, I would take the aburasoba over almost any other ramen place I have been to in Hawaii (even if it is not quite as good as Japan and Zagin Soba)!

Kamitoku Ramen Recommendation Rating: 3

This post has now been updated to reflect a new ratings system that I have implemented, which is scored as follows:

1: Something worth checking out if you have time

2: Something that is a hit for some people, but not a must for everyone

3: Something worth prioritizing if interested

4: Something worth making time to check out

5: An absolute home run, worth going out of your way for
