Half as Interesting is a YouTube Channel that I enjoy checking out from time to time, as it always seems to have very interesting topics.
Half as Interesting makes 5-7 minute videos about a variety of topics, most of which are things that you have likely never heard of (but will find interesting once you learn about them). Some topics that have been discussed include “Why 90% of Asians are Lactose Intolerant”, “Why a Book of 1 Million Random Serial Numbers Sells for $68”, “How One Woman Scammed Her Way Into the 2018 Olympics”, etc.
One of the reasons I really enjoy watching Half as Interesting videos is that they are all extremely well researched and easy to understand. Since most of the videos are no longer than 6 minutes (3 minutes on 2x speed), you can easily watch one during a break and learn something new. Even though the videos are short, it is clear that the creator spends a lot of time coming up with the animations and editing of the video.
If you like the YouTube Channel Great Big Story, Half as Interesting follows a relatively similar format. The major difference is that Great Big Story involves more camera work and going to visit places, while Half as Interesting uses animation and no actual video footage; however, the types of story and content that both share is very similar. Half as Interesting has 1.83 million followers on YouTube though, so it is clearly a channel worth checking out!
Half as Interesting Recommendation Rating: 3
This post has now been updated to reflect a new ratings system that I have implemented, which is scored as follows:
1: Something worth checking out if you have time
2: Something that is a hit for some people, but not a must for everyone
3: Something worth prioritizing if interested
4: Something worth making time to check out
5: An absolute home run, worth going out of your way for
