Nabeyo Maido is my favorite shabu-shabu restaurant in Hawaii. The Paitan broth at Nabeyo Maido is so flavorful that I do not even need the dipping sauces (for most other shabu-shabu places I need to use sesame sauce to get enough flavor).
When I go to Nabeyo Maido, I always order the same dishes; the Paitan broth, pork belly, and won bok. I also get some dumplings and ramen noodles, but those are about the only ingredients I ever order. It is such a simple combination, but the Paitan broth is so good that I do not need anything else.
Recently, my family has just been doing takeout of the Paitan broth and some other ingredients since we cannot go into the shop anymore. Takeout is still really good, and it is almost as good as being in the restaurant. Once the restaurant opens back up though, I would love to go back to support it; also, the restaurant has a “cave” section that has all the ingredients to pick out and bring back to your table.
Nabeyo Maido is one of my favorite restaurants in Honolulu, and it has been for a long time. I would love to see other people support it, as it is a small, local-owned restaurant! Be sure to check it out if you are ever in Honolulu!
Nabeyo Maido Recommendation Rating (For those who do not enjoy extremely long books): 4
This post has now been updated to reflect a new ratings system that I have implemented, which is scored as follows:
1: Something worth checking out if you have time
2: Something that is a hit for some people, but not a must for everyone
3: Something worth prioritizing if interested
4: Something worth making time to check out
5: An absolute home run, worth going out of your way for
