Video Speed Controller is a Google Chrome extension. This means that you need to have Google Chrome as your default browser in order to use the tool. However, I am sure there are similar types of tools for other browsers as well, so you can look for those if you are a Safari, Internet Explorer, or Firefox user.
Video Speed Controller allows you to speed up almost any type of video on the Internet. This is a great tool for lectures, classes, Youtube Videos, Netflix, etc. It is really great because it does not affect the video quality that much, and it allows you to speed up a video to as much as 3x. However, unless it is a really slow video, I am normally only watching on a speed between 1.5-2x. Still, if you are able to watch a video at 2x speed, this means that you can watch an hour video in 30 minutes, which can save a lot of time in the long run depending on how many videos you watch.
I know that there are many people who do not like to watch videos sped up, or they think that it is too difficult to understand; however, if you are a fan of listening to podcasts or audio formats sped up, I think that this extension is a must for videos. This is my favorite tool because unlike many other speed controllers, this extension also works on Netflix and HBO.

This post has now been updated to reflect a new ratings system that I have implemented, which is scored as follows:
1: Something worth checking out if you have time
2: Something that is a hit for some people, but not a must for everyone
3: Something worth prioritizing if interested
4: Something worth making time to check out
5: An absolute home run, worth going out of your way for
