Best Restaurants to Eat at in San Francisco: Chungdam

I love to eat Korean food, but because of COVID-19 I hadn’t been to a Korean BBQ restaurant since before the pandemic started. When I got to Northern California though, one of the restaurants I decided to try was called Chungdam.

It could be because I hadn’t had Korean BBQ in such a long time, but Chungdam was one of the better KBBQ restaurants I have eaten at. The quality of the meats were very good (the prices reflected this). My personal favorite was the pork belly, which I thought had the best flavor. I also tried Chungdam’s Suwon Galbi, which is one of the dishes Chungdam is most well known for. It is a bits sweet (it is marinated in sugar), but I also really enjoyed the Suwon Galbi.

In addition to having great meats, Chungdam also had really good side dishes and vegetables. It was great to be able to get unlimited refills on the banchan, as this is one of the experiences you lose when you takeout Korean food.

KBBQ is one type of food that cannot be replicated through takeout, as you have to eat the food fresh off the grill. If it has been a while since you last ate KBBQ and you are willing to pay a bit for quality, Chungdam is definitely a spot to check out!

Chungdam Recommendation Rating: 4

This post has now been updated to reflect a new ratings system that I have implemented, which is scored as follows:

1: Something worth checking out if you have time

2: Something that is a hit for some people, but not a must for everyone

3: Something worth prioritizing if interested

4: Something worth making time to check out

5: An absolute home run, worth going out of your way for
