There was pretty big news in the sports industry the other day when Fanatics acquired most of Topps (the legendary sports cards company) for $500 million. Most people thought the sale was inevitable after Fanatics won the rights to several of the major sports leagues (who were previously aligned with Topps).

While this is for traditional sports cards, Fanatics also has a separate entity called Candy Digital. This was created in partnership between Fanatics, Galaxy Digital, and Gary V (a prominent voice in the NFT community). Candy Digital is focusing on MLB NFTs, and similar to NBA Top Shot it is focused on animating these NFTs (unlike traditional static sports cards).

Candy Digital has already released some of their packs (called Icon and Uncut Diamonds), but the marketplace to resell these is going to be opening on January 15th. I personally have a couple, and I am excited to see how the marketplace functionality works once it is opened up (as well as the prices of the NFTs). While I think that sales might start off a bit slow, I also think Candy Digital has the potential to grow significantly in the future.

While Candy Digital is mostly focused on MLB, they also have a couple of NFTs from notable college football players if that interests you more. Candy Digital is just starting to release most of its long term plans, and I am interested in seeing how they continue to build out the product over time.

Candy Digital Recommendation Rating: 3

1: Something worth checking out if you have time

2: Something that is a hit for some people, but not a must for everyone

3: Something worth prioritizing if interested

4: Something worth making time to check out

5: An absolute home run, worth going out of your way for
