Best Restaurants to Eat at in Chicago: Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams

When I was in Chicago recently, I went to Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams three times. I thought it was a Chicago ice cream chain, so I was surprised to learn that it actually started in 2002 in Columbus, Ohio and has locations throughout the US (and in grocery stores as well).

The first time that I went to Jeni’s I ordered an almond flavor, peanut butter flavor, and something else that I couldn’t remember. While I thought these were all pretty good, it wasn’t until the second visit that I ordered the gooey butter cake. The gooey butter cake was easily the best of the flavors I tried, and was the main reason I went back for a third trip (pairing gooey butter cake with salted peanut butter was a good combination).

It had been a while since I actually ate an ice cream shop, as I normally only go when I am on vacation. It was a bit disappointing to learn that Jeni’s isn’t a local Chicago speciality, but I would still go back again the next time I visit. I have never had the ice cream in a tub at home from Jeni’s, but I think it could be good as well (just the texture is probably not as good).

Apparently, Jeni’s has over 60 locations throughout the US, so if there is a location around you (even if it’s not in Chicago) I would check it and the gooey butter cake flavor out!

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams Recommendation Rating: 4

1: Something worth checking out if you have time

2: Something that is a hit for some people, but not a must for everyone

3: Something worth prioritizing if interested

4: Something worth making time to check out

5: An absolute home run, worth going out of your way for
