Although I used to work in the Sawtelle area, I haven’t been able to try most of the new restaurants that have opened up recently (especially during or after Covid).
One Sawtelle restaurant that I recently got to try is called Tenkatori; apparently it is a chain, but this was the first time I had tried it. Tenkatori has a bunch of different types of fried chicken, but my favorites were the karaage and popcorn chicken (which just happen to be their top 2 sellers).
I was able to eat part of the karaage while I was at the restaurant, and then I took the rest of it home to eat as takeout. While it is still good as takeout, there is a significant difference being able to eat it fresh out of the fryer. The chicken is just more moist and the breading more crunchy, and I would highly recommend eating there if you have the chance.
Tenkatori is a great place to go if you are craving some fried chicken, and prices are quite reasonable as well (about $1/piece for the karaage).
Tenkatori Recommendation Rating: 4
1: Something worth checking out if you have time
2: Something that is a hit for some people, but not a must for everyone
3: Something worth prioritizing if interested
4: Something worth making time to check out
5: An absolute home run, worth going out of your way for
