I’m not a huge soccer fan, although with the World Cup going on I have been watching more soccer recently than ever before. Welcome to Wrexham though, is a show that like Ted Lasso, transcends soccer.
Welcome to Wrexham is a real-life story about the Wrexham Football Club, which was recently bought by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney (yes, the celebrities). Wrexham FC plays in one of the lowest professional soccer leagues in the UK, but it has also shot up in popularity since the purchase.
Welcome to Wrexham follows the team around during its first season under Reynolds and McElhenney, and details there dream of getting promoted to a higher league (they hope to one day get to the Premier League, which is the highest league in the UK). More than just soccer though, it goes into detail about the lives and stories behind all the players and the club (as well as getting to see more about Rob and Ryan’s journey).
Rob and Ryan are the two main stars of the show, but the entire Wrexham FC team is interesting as well. It is a great way to learn more about soccer and sports in an entertaining fashion; Rob and Ryan are also great to listen to because they are learning about the team and league right alongside the viewers.
Welcome to Wrexham Recommendation Rating: 5
1: Something worth checking out if you have time
2: Something that is a hit for some people, but not a must for everyone
3: Something worth prioritizing if interested
4: Something worth making time to check out
5: An absolute home run, worth going out of your way for
